About Me

I am a searcher seeking what lies within;
A wanderer who wonders at the journey.

I am flesh and bone,
And grew and birthed two little miracles:
Flesh of my flesh, yet bones all their own.

I am a lover who wears a beautiful ring,
A worker who is finding my path back to meaning,
And I fight against the ease of defining myself merely by my roles.

I am a thinker needing to channel my thoughts,
A dreamer needing to remember my dreams,
And an artist trying to find my art.

  1. Laurel – well done. You have the art of not being irritating when you write. It is such a relief. You show a nice discernment. Have not been much in touch as it was a heavy funeral in Brighton on Thursday and my energy was drained. Another really early night should help. Love to you and thank for for your lovely writing.

  2. I’ve never read anyone writing a poem about themselves both so honestly and beautifully rhythmical than you. Amazing!

And now I am gladly clicking the ‘follow’ button to read your upcoming posts. Thank you for sharing and inspiring! 🙂

    Warm regards,

    Subhan

    1. Thanks so much, I really appreciate that. The feeling is mutual (I must get around to adding a blogroll some time soon), and I love the humour in your posts too, which always bring a smile to my face.

    1. A very belated thank you for this nomination – I’m sorry I wasn’t on my blog much at the time, having moved countries and not yet having internet access. But I always say ‘better late than never’, so thank you 🙂

  3. Hey there Laurel! One of your Twitter posts led me to your blog, what a happy connection! I simply love your writing style, so gentle, and honest. Your blog is inspiring me to start my own, thank you! It was really great connecting briefly with you at our offices at PLAAS recently, I hope our paths will cross again, soon! Keep inspiring 🙂

    1. Oh Ursula, thank you so much – a happy connection indeed! I’m so glad my writing connects with you, and I’m very excited to hear you are starting your own blog – please do let me know if you’d like any advice or support with that at any point, or just send me the link once you’re up and running! It was fortuitous to bump into you that day at PLAAS, and I’m sure we can between us ensure that our paths do indeed cross again soon, and for longer so we can catch up properly!

  4. Hello Laurel! Thanks for responding and for your kind offer of assistance with a start-up blog, will surely tap your brains when I’m ready, hopefully soon!

  5. Beautifully written, love the flow and feeling of the words, heart felt and gripping.
So descriptive about who you are and where you want to go.
